A Spot of Tea

My son Dylan and I stopped in to 2Alices Coffee Lounge for tea and juice the other day, he, with laptop in tow so we could explore local apartments; he’s looking to move; and I dying for caffeine as I had run out of tea at home.

One of the perks of living in our small Village other than the obvious; nestled next to a mountain on the Hudson River; is that old-school community familiarity and spirit. From the moment we walked in and were greeted with a warm smile by my upstairs neighbor/barista Emily behind the counter, it felt so comfortable. I decided on the Chocolate Chai, a great choice.

I was anxious to try the new line of fresh Lucky Cow juices they offer which happen to be made by Dylan’s friend Mike and his girlfriend. I have known Mike since he was a preteen; a guitar prodigy in my opinion, and now he is an entrepreneur preparing to launch a mobile Juice and Vegan/Vegetarian Food business this Spring. The day’s selection was Carrot/Apple/Ginger delish!

As we were leaving we saw Emily’s boyfriend, Tom {who also lives upstairs} waiting in the parking lot to pick her up with his adorable Australian Shepard puppy Sophie. I was glad she was with him so I could get my fix of cute puppy and face licking and also introduce her to Dylan. Tom needed no introduction as he has known Dylan since before they moved in. Even before we realized this, when I hardly knew him, he gave me his old Subaru for free when I asked him how much he wanted for it. I used that car for over a year and believe me, being the “Starving Artist” that I am, I really appreciated it.

I know this may seem foreign to some who live in larger cities or towns, but, I grew up under similar circumstances in a city not far from here. Unfortunately, it changed throughout the years although there is a movement going on there to try to bring back that feel at least in some neighborhoods. I hope our little Village keeps it’s charm and warmth at least for quite some time.

Blackout

Book

In the midst of this

A blackout

Do I dare

Run my fingers up the spine

Ever so gently

Slowly as to feel

Every moment

Close my eyes

See in recesses of my mind

The world created

Sounds smells the look

Been so long

Since let myself

Get lost

And touch

A book

I’ve Fallen For A Mountain Man…

The Face of Storm King

The Face of Storm King

It is Autumn here in the Hudson Valley; the time when a not so young girl’s heart turns to fancy… yes, I’ve “fallen” for him; he’s tall, dark, strong with rugged good looks and though scarred from battle; he has always stood his ground.  He is as old as the hills and he is royalty; the Storm King.  Alas, his heart belongs to another… the beautiful River that flows beneath his watchful gaze; she is one with whom I cannot compete…
